Problem of the Week
Directions: Write your answer on a separate sheet of paper. Label the paper with your FULL name, your teacher, and which problem(s) you are handing in, then staple it to this sheet. Please show all your work.
Level 1: Hunger Strikes
I was very hungry yesterday so I looked in the refrigerator for the ingredients to make a sandwich. Here is a list of what I found: wheat bread, lettuce, ham, muenster cheese, tomatoes, turkey, salami, cheddar cheese, mustard, mayonnaise, cucumbers, onions, hamburger buns, and ketchup. How many different ingredients did I find?
Level 2: Build a Sandwich
Use the chart below to sort the ingredients by the category listed (hint - an example of a condiment is mustard):
Now build 3 or more different sandwiches that have one type of bread, one meat, one cheese, one vegetable, and one condiment. Challenge: How many different sandwiches can you build if each sandwich has one bread, one meat, one cheese, one vegetable, and one condiment.
Level 3: Sandwich Party
You invite some friends over to have a sandwich party. Each sandwich needs 2 pieces of wheat bread, 3 pieces of cheddar cheese, 2 piece of turkey, 1 slice of tomato, and 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise. If you invite 36 friends (including you), how many of each ingredient will you need?
Challenge: Change the number of teaspoons into tablespoons. Can you change it into a fraction of cups? (hint: It takes 3 teaspoons to make 1 tablespoon, and 12 teaspoons to make ¼ cup.)
