Rolling in the "Dough" Jan. 9, 2017

NAME: TEACHER:

Problem of the Week (Jan. 9, 2017)
Rolling in the “Dough”
Directions: Write your work on a separate sheet of paper. Label the paper with your FULL name, your teacher, and which problem(s) you are handing in, then staple it to this sheet.

SHOW ALL YOUR WORK

Level 1: Going Shopping: You have $10 to spend at a toy store. You can buy more than one of any toy listed, but you can only spend $10 or less. Here are the items for sale:
Toy
Cost each
Quantity
Bouncing ball
$1

Lego minifigure
$4

Rubber band shooter
$2

Card game
$3

Set of markers
$2

What combination of toys would you buy? Write the quantity in the chart and then add up how much you spent total.

Level 2: Coins, Coins, and More Coins: I have some coins in a bag. I know the total value is 97 cents. Using the fewest number of coins, tell me exactly how many quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies I have in the bag.
Level 3: Spy Code: In a simple secret code the letters in a word are replaced by numbers. “A” equals 1, “B” equals 2, “C” equals 3, all the way up to “Z” equals 26. Your first spy mission (if you choose to accept it) is to translate the word MONEY into the secret code of numbers. Your second mission is to write me a secret message using the same code. Make sure their are spaces between the numbers, but you do not need to put spaces between the “words” in the message. Leave me plenty of space to write the decoded message when I look over your POTW.
Bonus coded message:  8 1 22 5 6 21 14
