Carpentry Feb. 6, 2017

Problem of the Week (Feb. 6, 2017)
Carpentry

Directions: Write your work on a separate sheet of paper. Label the paper with your FULL name, your teacher, and which problem(s) you are handing in, then staple it to this sheet.

SHOW ALL YOUR WORK. PLEASE BE NEAT AND ORGANIZED.

Level 1:  Measurement: Ms. S has three stuffed animals. The chart shows how wide each one is. If I set them side, how wide will they be altogether?  Show your work. Draw a picture.
Name
Width
Hooty the owl
4 inches
Beanie the bear
2 inches
Odin the cat
5 inches

Level 2:  Animal furniture: The 2nd and 3rd graders are planning a small piece of furniture to build for a favorite stuffed animal. If someone wants to build a bed for a stuffed rabbit that is 9 inches tall and 6 inches wide, draw a plan for a bed that would fit the rabbit. Use the grid paper on the back to show the side view and the top view. Be sure to write in the dimensions of the bed (how long and how wide is the bed?).
Level 3: Fractions: Take 3 pieces of wood with the following lengths:
4½ cm, 9½ cm, and 8½ cm. What is the total length of the 3 pieces if you line them up. Show your work. Draw a picture.
