Level 1: Snowflakes or Flowers: This week is going to be much warmer than usual for February. Does the warmer weather make you wish for the cold and some fresh snow, or are you dreaming of spring flowers? Tell me which by either making 3 snowflakes or making 3 flowers. When you are done making them show me an addition problem that finds how many points on all the snowflakes or finds how many petals on all the flowers. Now solve your addition problem.
Level 2: Melting ice: The ice on the lakes is melting fast in this warm water. Over the weekend, numerous cars drove onto the ice and fell through. Fortunately no one was hurt, but the cars were ruined. Research what is a safe thickness of ice for a person and what is a safe thickness of ice for a car. Don’t forget to tell me the unit of measurement! Now tell me how can you tell how thick ice is?
Level 3: Temperature: On January 2nd, 2017 the low temperature in the Twin Cities was 28 degrees Fahrenheit and on January 3rd it dropped to 2 degrees. How many degrees did it drop? By January 6th temperature was -9 degrees Fahrenheit. How many more degrees did the temperature drop between January 3rd and January 6th? Show how you solved each problem.
